オーストラリアはイギリスの植民地だったので、横断歩道もてっきりヨーロッパ式かと思ったのに、アメリカ式（｜｜）だった。

I had imagined that crossroads in Australia must looked like those in UK because Austaralia was the colony of U.K., but Australia has an American-style (two vertical lines without horizontal lines).
The yellow sign with yellow legs means "there's a crossing road".

ラウンドアバウトとは、道と道とが交差する地点にある環状の道路で、信号を使わずに違う道に行くことができる。
私が初めてこれを体験したのはイギリスだったが、オーストラリアにもあった。
左側通行であることから、道路事情はイギリスの影響を強く受けているのだろうか。
ラウンドアバウトは名前の通りぐるぐる回るので、車酔いしやすい体質の自分はちょっと気分が悪くなった。
Roundabout is 'a type of circular intersection, a junction in which road traffic flows in one direction around a central island' (Wikipedia).
I saw one for the first time in UK.
Considering cars keep to left in Australia as in UK, Australian traffic is under influence of UK.
I don't like roundabouts because they make me carsick by going round and round.

オーストラリアの信号の特徴というと、歩行者信号が変わるのが異様に早いことである。
片側2車線でも、半分もいかないうちに点滅（青ではなく赤が点滅）してしまう。
バスガイドも「オーストラリアは全てがのんびりしているが、信号だけは別」と言っていた。
ちなみに、歩行者信号の大半は押しボタン式である。
The trait of traffic lights in Australia is that lights for pedestrians turns red unbelievably quickly.
The bus conductress said, 'In Australia everything goes slow except traffic lights.'
Talking about the lights, most of the lights for pedestrians are a pelican crossing (you need to push the button to stop the cars).

歩行者用信号機のほとんどは人型だったが、ケアンズではWALKの文字を使ったものも見つけた。
Most of the lights for pedestrians have signs of humans, but you can also see the one with 'WALK' signs in Cairns.

横断歩道の写真が出てきたので、upしておきます。
2本線しかなくて、一見すると（日本の）自転車専用通路みたいに見えますが、れっきとした人用です。
LOOK RIGHTと書いてありますが、じゃあ左は見なくていいんだろうか(-_-;)
This crossing road looks like a crossing road for bicycles in Japan, but this is for pedestrians.
I wonder if "LOOK RIGHT" means "you don't need to look left".
