イタリアの歩行者信号です。
色から判断するにAVANTが「進め」、ALTが「止まれ」なんでしょう。
文字で表すといっても、アメリカやオーストラリアは「walk + 否定」式。なかなか信号も奥深い。あ、日本にも「止まれ」って書いてあるやつがあったっけな。
奥に見える矢印の標識は一方通行でしょうか。日本は↑ですが、イタリアでは→なんですね。国によって向きが違うのもまた面白い。だれか「世界の道路標識」ってサイト立ち上げてくれないかな。
信号機のヨコについている"e. de nicola"ってのは通りの名前かな？ eはなんだか分からないけど、deは英語のofと同じだから、きっと「ニコラ通り」という意味なんだろう。
nicolaといえば、aで終わってるから女の子の名前みたいだけど、そうとは限らないらしい。スイス人のNicoleという友達は「Nicole（ニコル）が女の子の名前で、Nicola（ニコラ）は男の子の名前！ 間違えないで！」と言ってました。そういやニコール・キッドマンっていう女優さんもいたな。

Judging from the colour, AVANT means 'walk/go' and ALT means 'stop'.
Although they use their language in signs, lights in America and Australia put 'don't' when the light is red while in Italy they use a different word (in other words, they don't use negative 'not').
Does the sign next to the light, 'e. de nicola' show the name of the street?
I have no idea what e means, but de means 'of', so it must mean 'Street of Nicola' or something.
Talking about Nicola, this looks like a girl's name because of -a ending but it actually is a boy's name.
A Swiss girl named Nicole told me, 'In Switzerland Nicole is a girl's name and Nicola's a boy's name. Be careful!'
Oh, there's an actress named Nicole; Nicole Kidman.
